Details:
This is Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS (C/2023 A3) at its finest in the evening sky, two days after its closest approach to Earth, and with it sporting a 10º to 15º-long dust tail, and a short narrow anti-tail pointed toward the horizon. The location was Turret Arch in the Windows area of Arches National Park, Utah. This is looking west. The sky and foreground are lit by the waxing gibbous Moon off frame at left. Yet despite the bright moonlight, the tail of the comet was still easy to see naked eye. It was an impressive sight and a superb night, contrary to expectations as there were a lot of clouds about at sunset and some lingering clouds, of course, exactly where the comet was. But as the sky darkened the clouds disappated to reveal the comet. The moonlight and angle was perfect for illuminatiing the Arch. Technical: This is a panorama of 6 segments, each 10-second exposures, untracked, with the RF28-70mm lens at 28mm and at f/2.2 on the Canon R5 at ISO 400. Stitched in Adobe Camera Raw. Adobe DeNoise AI applied to the merged panorama DNG file, possible as of ACR 17, released this very day.
