Details:
I drove to the Valles Caldera National Preserve nearby Los Alamos, NM as it has a very nice Western horizon and is somewhat protected from light pollution. Situated in the Jemez Mtns at ~ 8800ft this area is actually a dormant supervolcano from ~1.2M years ago. While it could erupt again, tonight the volcano sleeps while a bright comet graces the skies overhead. I could easily see the comet with unaided vision including a tail 5-6 degrees long. Perhaps the antitail was also glimpsed but this could've been an illusion as the anti tail was clearly visible in the camera's LCD display and resulting images. This is a single 20s exposure with a Canon 20Da @ISO 400 and a Rokinon 16mm f/2 lens set at f/2.8 ~1930local time
