Devils Tower National Monument and Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) on October 13, 2024 @1938. Being such a rare event, I estimated where the comet would be aligned with Devils Tower. I almost turned around due to thick smoke on the western horizon from the Elk Fire in the Bighorns but decided to continue and boy am I glad I did! I had a front row seat to an incredible spectacle and stood there and watched it from about 1900 when the comet first became visible in the evening twilight until about 1940 when it finally set behind the tower under chilly but calm skies. It was an incredible experience and one I won't soon forget. This is a single image with the comet in full view and the rising moon illuminating the tower. Another interesting thing that I did not notice with my naked eye was the sheer number of micro meteors going on. There are about 7 visible in this photo of only 2 seconds! Hope you enjoy! Taken at 1938 MST at around a 265 azimuth. Canon EOS R, 100mm, f/5, 2 seconds, ISO 2500. Single exposure.
