Photographed with a Canon 70D equipped with a 17-55 mm lens at ISO 800, f/2.8, exposure = 17 seconds. Also two photos with an iPhone 15 Pro Max hand-held. The display was brightest when we arrived at about 19:30 PDT local time on Oct. 10 (02:30 UT on Oct. 11) and gradually faded over the next hour. A broad, faint arc of reddish-purple was visible extending from the northeast to northwest and, at its highest elevation, slightly above Polaris. We didn't see any pillars of light or other structure. Photographed through cirrus clouds with frequent planes in the foreground. The Kp index was about 8.7 when we arrived. By 9 pm the display was no longer visible to the naked eye or in iPhone photos.
