Details:
During the G3 aurora visible from Wisconsin on October 8, I also captured this phenomenon. I am referring to the purple band below (South of) the aurora in these shots. It was consistent, and didn't vary moment-by-moment like the aurora did. It stretched from horizon to horizon, and was level horizontal when looking straight south, it was also quite low - about 30 degrees up from the southern horizon. It stayed around for nearly an hour before fading. Any idea what this is? I initially though SAR, but it is fairly narrow, and more purple, which indicates STEVE to me?
It is not a camera or lens flaw - the band was consistently placed in the sky no matter my camera orientation and the purple band was not visible in shots in other directions (like North).
