Details:
As dawn illuminated the skies over Tehran on Thursday, October 3rd, we concluded our final session dedicated to capturing the Tsuchinshan Atlas comet. In response to the challenges posed by light/air pollution in the urban environment, we ascended to a peak in the northwestern region of the city, as increased elevation is crucial for achieving a clearer horizon. With just 50 minutes remaining before sunrise, the comet began to emerge above the dense layer of atmospheric haze, predominantly visible in our images due to the interference from both natural and artificial lighting. Utilizing 29 consecutive exposures of 2.5 seconds each, our post-processing revealed a striking tail extending over 15 degrees, accentuating the comet’s ethereal beauty as it traversed the dawn sky. This image stands as a testament to our dedication and perseverance, celebrating the remarkable celestial phenomena that exist beyond urban confines and the collaborative effort of those committed to exploring the cosmos. Moreover, this stunning display in the dawn sky serves as a promising indicator for the appearance of the comet in the dusk a week later, and we are keenly awaiting that event!
