Details:
Here in Kansas comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) has been pretty hard to pull from the sunrise, today was the first time I had any luck capturing it at all. What was really impressive was the length of the tail. Trying to find the comet I had a wider angle lens on and was running 1 minute exposures with a star tracker. This allowed me to see the tail 20 minutes before the comet actually rose above the horizon. While barely visible in the dim twilight even for the camera it might have the longest tail I have ever captured especially for how dim the comet is compared to other comets I have went after in the past.
I could not pull it from the twilight here naked eye at all. I know they are getting far better pictures from more favorable viewing locations but hopefully this picture gives some idea of that long tail. Its been quite a few years since we have had a nicely bright naked eye comet, I had really hoped this would be the next one but it didn't make it. Its really hard to make out but the tail even left the edge of this picture, depending on your monitor you may or may not see that on your monitor.
