At long last, the celestial wonder C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) graces the dawn sky of the Northern Hemisphere! On this remarkable morning of September 24th, we embarked on an exhilarating adventure to capture this comet during its inaugural visibility at a latitude of 36° North.
The journey was not without its challenges, as we faced the comet's proximity to the sun and its low altitude just above the horizon before sunrise. Our meticulous planning led us to seek out the ideal vantage point, where atmospheric transparency was optimal and the eastern horizon remained unobstructed.
Nestled in the breathtaking Alborz Mountains, we discovered a stunning location at over 3000 meters elevation, boasting a crystal-clear mountain sky. The majestic landscape, highlighted by the iconic Mount Damavand—the highest peak in the Middle East—provided the perfect backdrop for this cosmic event.
As the clock ticked down to just 40 minutes before sunrise, the magic unfolded before our eyes. The comet revealed itself, shining brilliantly with a magnitude brighter than 3. However, its brilliance was somewhat subdued against the illuminated dawn sky, making it challenging to capture in all its glory.
This is merely the beginning of a dazzling display from C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS) in our northern skies. We eagerly anticipate the future performances of this magnificent comet, ready to witness more celestial wonders in the days to come!
