Satellite Trail Puffball -Plus
On September 6th,2024, I took a 5 hour, 60 frame live stack of the Cocoon Nebula, IC-5146. One of the 5-minute subs, left a wide faint satellite trail in the final stacked image. It went straight through the dark nebula B 168. In the center of the trail was a well-defined sphere with 3-4 spikes emanating from its east side. The sphere is approximately 1’ in diameter.
I have to assume that this sphere was caused by the object making the trail. A thruster burn perhaps? The resolution of my optical system shows the object with great clarity even at enlargements over 100 percent.
This however is not the only strange object in the field. To the northeast another sphere, 2’ in diameter was found, but without any trail. On this object, the center was the same size and color as in the trail object but a red circle surrounded it. In addition, to the east and north and south are two more faint, less well defined, circular objects. All look like new planetary nebula but they are definitely man made. Looks like satellite making companies have invented new ways of ruining our Astro-photos!
The capture was made with my C-14 Hyperstar astrograph and ZWO ASI 2600 Pro Duo cooled camera.
