Hi Tony, last night's NLC display not only blew me away but I would consider it within the top two displays I've ever seen in my life. This was rite up there with the jaw dropping displays I observed during 2009 when we had a deep solar minimum. Last night had me on such a natural high, the clouds were overhead at one stage then as the sky darkened they seemed to glow with an alien beauty casting shadows on the ground, even my dog who was with me was glowing blue in the dark. Between 01.00 and 02.00 was the best moment for me, the N-NE sky had huge glowing whrils, twists, knots, bands and herrinbone overlapping these, vertical towers extending high into the sky and at one stage it looked like gravity wave formation or ripples in a sheet as the clouds moved in real time. As a ling time NLC observer I was in shock with this display, what a beauty! if this season is enhanced by the Tonga event then this night is even more remarkable. Here's a drone image for now with me in my element.
