Details:
We were just north of Providence Rhode Island, leaving at midnight after receiving SMS texts and watching animated cloud cover maps. While we missed the first big display at 10:30-11:30pm on May 11, we saw an equally energetic display May 12 from 2am on. The sky was wriggling like an angry green snake. Yellow and white spokes shimmered on the vertical plane. Faint pulses of white light shot up and across the entire sky like the ripples of a stone thrown into a pond. Deep purples turned to bright red, which would fade to ghostly white and then green and then back again. At its brightest it was visible while looking straight up, as shown in the last photo. I’ve also included a drawing my daughter drew of it on site, because it’s freaking adorable. A beautifully kinetic event.
