Details:
The amazing spectrum of the May 10/11 '24 auroral outbreak was captured here in all its glory. Center strip is a composite of two images obtained just after midnight & near 3 am, May 11th, 2024. My typical sky-glow is shown at top (2024) & bottom (2021), with the well known light-pollution features. All numbers are in Nanometers. The limits of this home-made device ranges from about 375 nm in the UV through to 825 in the NIR. The blue end of the spectrum, as well as the NIR, became completely transformed with this geomagnetic storm. What's fascinating are the blue & violet features, including a strong UV line near 389 nm, which are completely unknown to me (Nitrogen?). Additionally, there are lesser green lines at 500 & 522 nm that need identification. My typical overhead clear & overcast sky-glow (mainly from Montreal, QC, CAN) are shown on the second image.
