Details:
Yesterday night I came home from drinks around 00:15, and from my apartment window I started to see some faint pillars of light in the sky - that I first thought to be human-made light beams like the one we have on the Eiffel Tower.
I jokingly said to my friend "look we can see the northern lights" - which would never happen in Paris - but after watching the space weather report and a few long exposure shot we quickly realised that we were indeed seeing northern lights !! Quite surreal and amazing !
They were quite faint due to light pollution, but we managed to see some greenish hue and white pillars with the eye. My iPhone night mode did wonder to capture the colors of the aurora. I think the strong aurora lasted 20-30 min, and became invisible around 1am.
I feel extremely lucky considering all the things that needed to be working for it to happen: clear skies, strong geomagnetic storm, me living in an apartment at the last floor with north exposure, and no moonlight.
