Planning-
Used website ISS transit finder to know the current transits, this particular transit was over my house, near the center line path and the angular size of CSS (considering how small it is even compared to ISS) was good enough to be visible on the solar surface.
Execution- carried my Dobsonian to the fourth floor (no lift 🤪), collimated my Newtonian, used Nikon D5600 with Baader MakIII CC, for such high-speed transit the shutter speed has to be fast too, took some test shots, as a practice I use high ISO and High shutter speed, checked histogram, used video mode of DSLR and waited for the transit which was 0.49sec only!
Results: At first wasn’t even sure if had caught the tiny CSS atleast nothing was seen on the camera screen.
Used PIPP to convert video to individual frames.
Then I found that the transit was actually captured, and CSS showed up in 24 frames.
Between I’ve failed many times trying to capture a transit(both lunar & Solar), last one I failed due to wrong shutter speed 😑
This is my first successful attempt.
Equipment Used:
8" Skywatcher Flextube Dobsonian (Manual)
Nikon D5600 with Baader MakIII CC
EXIF: (Video Mode) ISO 500 SS 1/2000
Processed in PIPP(extracted 6900 frames), 24 frames had the CSS transit, Used PS to stack.
Clear Skies!
