Details:
This evening to observe the comet I took the telescope to the roof. It was not a small telescope, however, but an 18-inch Dobsonian. I was curious as to what details I could see of comet 12P with a diameter as large as this. And so, once I had spotted the Hamal star I looked for the comet in the twilight. And there it was! To the finder it appeared as a whitish blurry star; to the eyepiece, however, the surprise was great because the nucleus and the coma were clearly distinguishable. The nucleus was almost point-like and appeared completely enveloped by a much larger, perfect-circle-shaped canopy with very clear contours. The image looks like a very bright star hidden by an intense white cloud, spherical in shape and with sharp contours on the side facing the Sun and more blurred on the other side. Just as seen in these single shots taken with a smartphone through the eyepiece. Images without post production.
