Very nice geomagnetic activity yesterday, with a strong disturbance arrival in the early UTC afternoon. Here's what has been recorded by my prototype magnetometer in the NW of Scotland. The first signals of something changing in the were after 1430/1500UTC, with the first strong pulse associated with the CME impact. A second, smaller, one was detected around 19UTC instead, both clearly visible. The prototype sensor is inside my house, N/S oriented, with its data filtered to cut the artificial spikes caused by nearby electronic equipment. The second plot shows the signal rate of change. At the same time, the third illustrates the overall activity via the colors that we are accustomed to from other aurora monitoring sources. All in all, a very good geomagnetic episode, just a bit of a shame that it was daytime here in the UK when it happened, or we would have seen magnificent northern lights.
