Details:
Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks on March 5, 2024 exhibits a highly developed and dynamic ion tail with several filaments and jets extending beyond the nearly 2 degrees in lenght in this image, amidst which a tail disconnection that occurred days earlier can be appreciated. The details within the greenish coma are particularly striking, where a jet-like structure can be seen spiraling out from the interior, wrapping around the nucleus indicating its rotation. The image is composed of a mosaic of two tiles in the four LRGB filters, while the comet descended to just 15° above the horizon.
