Details:
The 1.2-day old, Earthshine-laden Moon sets over the "D" in St. George. The Dixie D--whitewashed rocks contrasting against black volcanic basalt--was put there by a local school over 100 years ago (the LED lighting could be newer). SW Utah is known throughout the state as Dixie since the area was originally settled by pioneers primarily from the southern United States. The silhouette obscures the fact that the D is relatively close by on a small hill across town while the mountain with its tower is over 20 miles away.
