Amazing Sunset with Crepuscular Ray, Cloud Shadow and Young Moon.
A succession of dull sunsets, due to presence of unproductive thin grey cloud, was followed on Saturday by an amazingly vivid one which remained bright after the Sun disappeared below the horizon and projected a prominent bright crepuscular ray upwards between an approaching cumulus cloud and the young (two-day-old) January Moon in the sky above. The spectacle was enhanced by the crepuscular ray generating a strong cloud shadow as the cumulus cloud passed in front causing it to fade and give way to a light pillar above the sunset point. At dusk the young Moon developed strong Earthshine and three small Capricornus stars became visible close by. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset mode.
