Details:
In almost a decade of aurora hunting, I've never seen this shade of violet. Last night's auroras at my home were green - lovely, enchanting, and about what you'd expect in south Iceland. Tonight, though, the lights looked different. They appeared just after dark, crossing overhead from east to west. I thought at first it was a simple SAR arc, but then it began to develop clear structure - bright rays with green tips. It was unlike anything I'd seen before. Fortunately, I had a camera close at hand to capture the lights!
