Details:
I recently restored a magnetometer I built some years ago using a simple bar magnet suspended from thread, with a mineral oil bath for vibration dampening. In close proximity to the magnet, I have a Hall Effect sensor mounted which senses movement in the magnet when Earth's magnetic field is disturbed. The voltage change from the Hall Effect sensor is then sent onto my computer for recording the results. My data agrees with the D component sensor at NOAA's Boulder, CO. facility. Hopefully, the skies will clear off here in upper Michigan so we can see the Auroras generated by the incoming CME.
