Details:
Was showing tourists the crescent Moon last night October 17th., 2023, and we attempted to image it with our mobile phones through my 80mm refractor and a 17mm Plössel eyepiece. The Earthshine was very prominent, and I also spotted an illuminated peak beyond the end of the southern cusp. This peak must have been very high to have caught the sunlight when the base of it was in darkness. It was confirmed visually through the eyepiece, so it was not an artifact. I am curious to identify this feature.
