Introduction
Hollywood has depicted Transient Luminous Events (TLEs) Sprites probably for the first time in the Greenland (2020) movie and in several scenes. It is seemingly the first ever movie to depict Transient Luminous Events (sprites), associated with the sighting of cometary debris of the magnitude of an extinction-level event. Why will approaching fragments of a comet rich in Rare Earth Elements cause apparitions of TLE? The movie does not explain the cause of this association. These sprites can be seen in no less than 5 scenes in the film.
Plot
Greenland is a 2020 Hollywood apocalyptic disaster film directed by Ric Roman Waugh and written by Chris Sparling. The film stars Gerard Butler (who also produced), Morena Baccarin, Roger Dale Floyd, Scott Glenn, David Denman, and Hope Davis, and follows a family who must fight for survival as a planet-destroying comet races to Earth.
Commentary
Don't Look Up (2021) is a recent Hollywood 'don't look up' genre movie with a 'comet apocalypse' genre subplot. What might be relevant in regard to the understanding of the Greenland 2020 movie is when "a project to strike and divert a comet set to collide with the Earth within 6 months, using nuclear weapons is abruptly aborted by Peter Isherwell, the billionaire CEO of tech company BASH, who discovers that the comet contains trillions of dollars worth of rare-earth elements. The U.S. authorities agrees to commercially exploit the comet by fragmenting and recovering it from the ocean, using technology proposed by BASH, in a scheme that has not undergone peer review."
