Details:
Cracking aurora display last night, which looks like it was the result of a filament eruption on the sun on the 16th. This was an aurora in two halves, starting with a bright arc in the late nautical twilight and rays extending beyond the Polaris, nearly reaching overhead at one point. The second half was later in the night during the early hours, when despite the increase in magnetic activity ( kp6) the aurora was further north and thus lower on the northern horizon. This is pretty much what you would expect after magnetic midnight (2200 UTC in the UK), when active pulsating forms are more likely to occur.
