Details:
Comet C/2023 P1 Nishimura in the morning twilight of September 9, 2023. The 50mm shot (16x3sec @f/4, ISO3200) was made from Austria, looking across the border at the Mikulov castle in Czechia. At the time of our image, the comet was close to the 3.4mag star Zeta Leonis. To the unaided eye the comet was invisible, but with a 10x30 binocular it put on a nice show. The comet’s diffuse head looked like a star out of focus with a half degree long ion tail pointing straight down at the horizon.
