Details:
This image is a composite of pictures taken during the nights of August 11 and 12, 2023, between approximately 11 p.m. UT and 3:30 a.m. UT each night that summarizes the maximum of 2023 Perseid meteor shower.
During this time, continuous 30-second exposures were taken with a north-facing full-frame fisheye lens attached to a modified (full spectrum) digital reflex camera on a fixed tripod. In total, some 1,200 photos were obtained, which were examined one by one to extract the Perseid meteors.
Images containing Perseids were combined by compensating for Earth's rotation so as to show the effect of a radiant located in the constellation Perseus.
During the first night more meteors near the radiant were captured, while on the second night meteors further away and some fireballs appeared.
In the lower area appears the medieval town of Sant Llorenç de la Muga (province of Girona, Spain), which celebrates the festival of the saint that gives its name to the town. Sant Llorenç in Catalan means Saint Lawrence, and the Perseids are known in Spain as the "tears of Saint Lawrence" in memory of the martyr who is commemorated on August 10 of each year.
