Details:
I imaged the🌙 Venus Crescent at 5:13 pm EST with an altitude of just 25° in the West. This was very challenging due ot the close proximity of the planet Venus to the Sun. I had a scare with my EdgeHD 14" OTA. All turned out OK in the end. At the time of this imaging session the weather was very cloudy and at short times of light thin multi-layers of fast-moving clouds. I did not have the luxury of time and space. Venus was closing in fast to reach my Westery tree line of no return for that day. My imaging setup was one " Blue Sweatshirt " to block the Sun on half of the corrector plate. You know the telescope now. The imaging camera was a ZWOasi1600 Pro MM with a Red 610 nm Longpass filter. The clouds refused to leave and photo-bombed my Venus Crescent image. Something is better than nothing. So remember you are looking at Venus behind multi-layers of clouds. This is the story before I image this Venus image: > WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! DO NOT TRY TO IMAGE VENUS NOW UNTIL YOU ARE 100% SURE THAT VENUS IS NOT TOO CLOSE TO THE SUN IN YOUR IMAGING FIELD OF VIEW. IT WAS WITH MY EdgeHD14" on the day of this image. On 08-12-23 when I had the telescope at Venus. I could not find it. I saw I had a small light on the corrector plate. I put my hand over the small light with the back of my hand to the Sun and I could feel a hot heat source in the palm of my hand. This means your telescope is too close to the Sun if you are trying to image Venus. I started to see that the Sun was now reacting to the telescope and started to see what looked like smoke-like gas. I moved the telescope just in time. My telescope is OK. I just wanted to share this story with you. This is the spot the Sun was a problem coming back up to the corrector plate. This worked out with the sweatshirt. King Regards To ALL :-)
