Details:
Unexpected early morning cloud prevented observation of the Waning Crescent Moon in close conjunction with Jupiter on Wednesday 17th. Almost clear conditions on Thursday 18th provided a spectacular view of the now thin 2% illuminated Moon rising below both Mercury and Jupiter in the emerging red glow of a Volcanic Sunrise! Mercury with Jupiter above first appeared over the ENE Cecil Kop horizon while it was still dark at 5.06 am to be followed by the Moon in a glowing red sky at 5.25 am. The three objects were then photographed ascending in the colorful glare of a growing volcanic sunrise twilight arch which became so bright that they all disappeared into it just before 6.00 am. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in manual exposure mode.
