Details:
Arizona aurora theme last night was centered on cloud games. I was possibly too committed to this spot, trying to pair up the San Francisco Peaks. But another 30-45 minute drive could well have landed a new batch of clouds and other foreground problems. It surely didn't help that I took too long finishing another project before heading out around 10pm. Seems like the best burst was happening just as I headed out to look for a clear spot. Definitely lots to learn—e.g. shorter exposures for crispier structure and balancing that vs. brightness & noise. Since the pillars were fairly smeared anyway, I just went all in on a multi-image stack to beat down noise to my satisfaction. Air glow was overwhelmingly green everywhere, which was working hard to camouflage some of that blue-purple extension hopping above the red aurora, left of center. You can sort of see it here. It's slightly more distinct on individual frames, but still heavily blended into that green. Frustrations aside, it's cool to have had a shot at it.
