Details:
Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) imaged on January 31, 2023 during its closest approach to Earth at a distance of 0.3 AU, or what is the same 110 times the distance from our planet to the Moon. In this image I measured the comet with a brightness at magnitude 4.9 and a green gaseous coma with 21' in angular diameter. In addition to the whitish dust tail embedded in the coma, the reddish dust antitail can still be seen fanning out, although what stands out most is the narrow bluish ion tail getting out of the field to the south.
