Details:
Another aurora that took quite a while to get going, with the best of the action in the early hours. Chapel of Garioch was in and out of freezing fog for most of the evening and night, but luckily I was able to catch some of the best of the action, although it was hard going on my camera gear, which ended up covered in rime ice by the end of the night. I used a lens heater on the time-lapse camera, but the cold temperatures were hard on the batteries, and I was constantly checking the lenses for icing. Think the effort was well worth it in the end, and on the plus side, I'm thinking the fog must have trapped a fair amount of light pollution. Note also the red airlglow structures above the aurora.
