Details:
I went down to the floodplain of the Kansas River, where Cedar Creek meanders, and waited for sunset which occurred at 5:14 pm, CST. These four images show the progression of sky coloration beginning 10 minutes after sunset, at 5:24, 5:26, 5:28 and 5:31 pm, respectively. All made with a 16 mm NIKKOR fish-eye lens on a Hutech, astro-modified Canon Rebel XTi. Saturation bumped up a bit to bring out color differences. These displays lately are reminiscent of the Kasatochi event in August of 2008. I am still awaiting word from anyone in the northern hemisphere that is observing this phenomenon, which may be due to aerosols from the Jan. 2022 eruption of Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai, which many southern hemisphere shooters have been submitting images and reports of for many months now.
