Details:
My brother Bobby gave me the heads up about this meteor shower. So I did some reading about it. Then on 05-30-22 and 05-31-22, I wanted to see if I could image the tau Herculids meteor shower from Comet 73P/Schwassman-Wachmann 3 (SW3) skimming along a trail of debris left during its multiple trips around the sun. The flame-like objects are the comet’s fragments and their tails, while the dusty comet trail is the line bridging the fragments. So I set up my Canon Mark III camera on top of my AP155 f7 refractor and AP16000GTO mount with encoders. I commanded the mount to go to the star Arcturus and placed the Canon 16-35mm lens set at 16mm @ 2.8 with camera set at ISO 1600 @ 10.00s. I aimed my cameras 16mm field of view between star Arcturus and the Big Dipper. tau Herculids meteor shower was to come from the constellation Boötes that Arcturus is part of. I read it would be a big meteor shower. I also read it could be a no show. I took a chance anyway. Like I said I got "LUCK" and was very happy to get at least image 1 faint tau Herculids meteor. Imaged from my Manorville, NY observatory.
I read that: Arcturus is a red giant star in the Northern Hemisphere of Earth's sky and the brightest star in the constellation Boötes (the herdsman). Arcturus is also among the brightest stars that can be seen from Earth. Astronomers say Arcturus will end up as a white dwarf at the end of its life.
I also read: In the United States and Canada, the handle of the Big Dipper is the Great Bear's tail, while the cup is the bear's flank. Some Native American legends say the bowl of the Big Dipper is a bear and the stars of the handle are three warriors chasing it. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, it is called the Plough.
Kind Regards To ALL 🙂
