Details:
Just back from a 9 day holiday in Iceland, where apart from a couple of days the weather was fine, albeit rather cloudy. Was beginning to think I might draw a blank as far as auroras were concerned, but luckily there were some breaks on the last two nights, and the last night just happened to coincide with the arrival of a CME, which produced a G1 geomagnetic storm. We were staying near Borgarnes in Western Iceland, and the first shot was taken before the CME arrived from a small lake on the Heydalsvegur road, as it was cloudy further south. There were several bands visible in the early twilight, and these intensified with twisted auroral forms moving westward across the northern horizon. By the time I got back to Borgarnes it had cleared, and the second shot was taken after the arrival of the CME, looking south over Hafnarfjall. There was a fair amount of cirrus so I didn’t get as clear a view as I would have liked, but given the weather up to that point, It was just great to get any sort of view of this magnificent atmospheric Phenomenon.
