Details:
Auroras kick in over Broad Pass near Cantwell, Alaska just after midnight (08:00 UTC) at the very beginning of the Spring Equinox, March 20, 2022. Add a rising lunar halo over the Alaska Range for spice and balance. Happy Equinox Everyone! I’m guessing this nice little aurora break-up may have been part of the CME glancing blow as forecasted. After 12 hours of a solid negative Bz component, I began to lose hope when the solar wind magnetic polarity turned to the dreaded neutralizing positive +Bz, right as Alaska was getting dark. But thankfully there was enough charge to drive this substorm as springtime sprung for us north of the equator.
