Details:
I captured a picture of “fata morgana” whilst driving home across the Coleman bridge yesterday. This is a mirage that occurs when very cold air is trapped near the water under warm air above. The inversion basically creates a lens that magnifies objects at incredible distances. The photo doesn’t do it justice, but it was easy to see details of ships 20 miles away and buildings all the way out in Cape Charles, 30 miles away. Normally these are not visible even on a clear day because of the curvature of the earth.
