Details:
A beautiful conjunction of the young crescent moon and the planet Mercury could be observed in the evening twilight of the 3rd of January. The setting thin sliver of the moon and Mercury touched the mountainous horizon at the observation site (S 31.464°, W 71.200°, 19 km north of Illapel, Coquimbo, Chile) almost at the same time. Near the horizon, some distortions of the lunar disk can be noticed. The photos were taken with a Canon 6Dmod and a Tokina AT-X SD 300mm f/2.8 telephoto lens.
