Details:
This morning, I captured a 12-minute (3 min. each LRGB) Comet Leonard image with my 100mm f/3.8 Vixen refractor and SBIG 16803 CCD camera. Still smarting over having missed the M3-Comet Leonard apparition last week, I was nonetheless determined to capture the comet before it left the early morning skies. The long comet tail stretched over 4 degrees out of my refractor field and passed right over Bootes galaxy NGC 5610. Upon image linking my comet photo to TheSky software program, I noticed two high proper motion (HPM) red stars (SAO 83344 & 83345) near the comet coma deviating from their previous positions. An attached gif animation illustrates that these two M3V stars are a pair likely revolving around each other as they traverse interstellar space. The night sky is full of hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
