Details:
I was not expecting much because the forecast was for clouds, but I set my alarm anyway for 2:30am. When I looked at the satellite photo I could see a clearing about a 30 minute drive to the north-east. So I decided to go for it, and I found a nice quiet spot over looking a corn field about 50km north of Kingston ON. The sky had cleared and there was a beautifully almost fully eclipsed moon in the sky! There were coyotes howling in the field and I wondered if perhaps they had noticed what was happening in the sky above them as the moon turned to orange and red. I was able to create a composite with Hyades, Pleiades, and the California Nebula with an exposure I took in anticipation of the eclipse. It was well worth the extra effort to go chasing this beautiful eclipse.
