Details:
Comet 6p/d'Arrest transited through M20, the Trifid Nebula. Only briefly visible for about 16 minutes at full darkness. Captured with T11 iTelescope in Mayhill NM. A stack of three x 180 sec. Because M20 is low in the sky only 5 images were captured and the best three stacked. Perihelion is September 21, 2021. This image shows the comet just prior to entry of M20, the path through M20 shown in a screenshot from The Sky Live. It was first observed by Heinrich Ludwig d'Arrest in June 1851. The comet nucleus is estimated at about 3.2 km in diameter. A periodic comet with an orbit of 2400 days (6.57 years).
