The picture shows two spectra: the above lying is the Nova with bright emission lines in the red, yellow and blue, the spectrum below is that of an ordinary star. The bright emission lines (e.g. in the red H-Alpha, in yellow Helium) clearly demonstrate that plasma was ejected during the nova outburst.
