Details:
The moment of conjunction of Venus and Spica was at 06.00 UTC on 5th September. The accompanying mosaic shows three views of Venus, Spica and Mercury in the evening sky west of Mutare at 6.18 pm LT on the 4th, 5th and 6th. with Venus and Spica closest on the 5th. Was difficult to see all three objects clearly due to increasing amounts of smoke haze derived from dry season burning (fires visible in the third photograph). The diagonal light trails in the lower right portion of each view are from headlamps of vehicles descending Christmas Pass. Camera: 4 second exposures taken with a tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in night scenery mode. Post processing - careful adjustment of brightness and contrast and minimal application of Star Spikes Pro filter to enhance visibility of the celestial objects.
