Details:
Was taking photographs at 6.20 pm of Venus with Mercury below and Mars near Christmas Pass when a fairly slow moving faintly luminous Earthgrazer meteor vapour trail passed below Mercury and became incandescent as it headed to the southeast and produced a tiny fireball before departing over a layer of smoke haze on the horizon. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in night scenery mode. The photographs are 4 second time exposures except for one in which the trail is short when the shutter opened for half a second.
