Details:
Before local midnight on August 12 (21:16UT), this brilliant Perseid meteor flashed above Gagliano del Capo, in the south of Italy. Streaking beside the summer Milky Way this Perseid left a lingering visible trail known as a persistent train, wafting in the upper atmosphere. Its development is followed in the inset frames, exposures separated by one minute and shown inverted at the scale of the original image. After 20 minutes faint remnants of this persistent train could still be traced.
