Details:
In order to facilitate finding objects from the window sill I bought a used small "Goto" mount last autumn. Although I primarily didn't want it, for a relatively small sum I also got a decent tripod and a 90mm Maksutov . All this makes a very nice lightweight "Grab and Go" system using the window-sill observatory's 80mm refractor, enabling me to easily use the patio as an outpost of the window-sill but with more sky to view. Anyway, the little Mak is an interesting scope, although results have been a bit disappointing from the window-sill. So, I re-collimated the scope and ventured onto the patio to see what it did with Saturn and Jupiter. The mini-Mak is clearly no match for my 8" SCT, but I am still quite pleased with the results given the convenience and price differential if you want to buy a new 8"SCT! I again missed the GRS meridian transit on Jupiter due to computer problems and the image is about 90 minutes after the transit, You can just make out the GRS disappearing on the S equatorial belt if you look hard.
