Details:
The instant of July Full Moon was at 02.37 UTC (4.37 am local time) on Saturday 24th. Unfortunately cloud close to the horizon prevented observation of the Moon either rising the previous evening or setting on the morning of the 24th. However a temporary gap in cloud at medium elevation at about 6.15 am did allow the Full Moon to appear for a few minutes before being covered again. While taking some photographs of this some cloud skirted past just below the Moon and created an emoji face which appeared to turn from left to right in a remarkable display of pareidolia before disappearing as shown in the accompanying 14 frame time-lapse animation and two mosaics. This is one of the best and most persistent displays of this kind that have seen on the Moon and lasted for almost two minutes. Camera: Tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset mode.
