I decided that it was time to escape the city and camp out in one of the darkest areas I could find. I ended up at a campground in Hite, Utah. Judging from my light pollution map, this place may be one of the darkest places in the country, with absolutely no light pollution in any direction. After living in the city for so long, I had forgotten what a truly dark sky looks like.
I was taking a lot of Milky Way photos from my campsite, and noticed I was seeing a lot of airglow. I thought it would be fun to see what happened if I just left my shutter open for 30 minutes while I kicked back and watched the sky. Even in the darkest of dark places, it's amazing how much light exists in the sky!
