Details:
Unexpectedly clear sky at dawn on Wednesday 9th provided a perfect view of the 1.5% illuminated very thin Waning Crescent Moon rising above a hill to the north of Cecil Kop Nature Reserve. This Moon appeared at 5.53 am, 31 hours before the instant of New Moon at 12.52 LT on the 10th, and is one of the thinnest and therefore oldest moons that I have observed rising from Murambi East. Due to rapid brightening of the sky from approaching sunrise at almost the same location an hour later, the very thin crescent was visible for less than 10 minutes before being overwhelmed by glare. Camera: Hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS40 in sunset mode.
