Wednesday April 21st Glasgow – Kelvingrove Park 18:30 BST Amazing Halo and other ice crystal effects from a beautiful blue sky. Sun was at 267 degrees azimuth, 16 degrees altitude. As well as a partial 22 degree halo and two very bright and colourful parhelia (sundogs) I saw my first and most beautiful cirumzenithal arc. Also on display were an upper tangential arc and possibly a 44 degree halo which could have been supralateral and intralateral arcs. The latter arcs or halo looked like a very thin rainbow especially in the NE section. This can be just seen in some of the phots on a good display. Also on display, I think, was a suncave Parry arc – in between the upper tangent arc and cirumzenithal arc Towards the end of the display I think a parhelic circle was developing from the two parhelia. This was a most amazing sight – the best halo display I have ever seen and a first for many of the effects. Weather – quite still, an azure sky, high clouds to west and a slight cold breeze from the NW I think.
