Details:
The emission spectrum of Nova Cassiopeia V1405 stands out very nice in this simple spectrogram. The background image is a short exposure with a 12" RC telescope and an STL11000M CCD camera at March 22. It shows the bright 8.2 magnitude nova in the center. The spectrum was taken some days later, at April 10, with a 200 lines/inch grating. I used the 12" RC telescope with an ASI183M camera. The H-alpha, H-beta and H-gamma emission lines are very prominent! Also, some Helium lines can be seen in emission. It is really amazing that one can observe the fingerprint of the expanding shell in this way! I have shown the spectrum in both B/W and color version for clarity.
